Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~
Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
This photo of our Christmas appetizers (and asparagus prep) is courtesy of Joseph:
You can cure some salmon now and it will be ready in two days! It's super easy! The recipe (method, really) is in this post about “Curing Salmon With Ease.” It could. Not. Be. Easier.
(Don't tell Sukie we put anything on the piano. But at least there are no drinks on there, or I'd really be in trouble… )
Checking on the bees is not a usual activity for Christmas Day in New England, nor is prancing around outside in shirtsleeves trying to capture a family photo. But that's how it was this lovely Christmas. Now we are back to ice and snow, but that's okay. It's still Christmas and we're still celebrating!
I hope you are still celebrating!

John looked through this post before me. As soon as he got to that picture: “They put stuff on the piano, Sukie.” “Are there drinks on it?!”
(then he got to the caption.)

Leila,
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I was taken to another page on your website with a picture of a small silver “fork” which you could not identify–I recognized it right away! It is a nut picker which would accompany a tray of fancy nuts (along with nut cracker) for an after dinner treat! What the nutcracker could not crack open the nut picker would finish….lucky me, this was my clean up job–ha ha!
Hope this helps!
Bless you,
Theresa

Thanks, Theresa! Good to know!

I LOVE smoked salmon! It never occurred to me to try it at home, but I’m sure going to now! Luckily, I have a squeamish family who balk at raw food, so… more for me!
Leila says
Jennie, you should! It’s so much better than what you buy. And, not to diminish your personal supply or anything, strictly speaking the cured fish isn’t raw. It’s… cured. Not cooked, I grant you… but if you can somehow persuade them that denaturing has taken place LOL

We had really warm weather, too, in between the flooding. We had to take an alternate route home from our trip east because of road closures. I enjoyed all your pictures! It looks like you had a wonderful celebration of our Lord’s birth!
