~ Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~
Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
{real}
It's me again! I keep thinking that one of these days I'm going to write a non-Thursday post — we're not talking about anything “Destruction-proof” level, of course, but, for instance, I've been wanting to share with you the yummy freezer breakfast burritos I've been making my husband lately (I think I've already made at least two more batches since I took photos), or maybe show you the progress we've made on setting up the house in the year we've been here (I never even posted proper “after” pictures of our kitchen after painting the cabinets!).
But in reality, all I can manage these days is to share a handful of pictures of my children every week or two for {phfr}. How do mommy bloggers do it? I have no idea. All I know is nothing makes my assistance absolutely essential quite as quickly as when I sit down in front of the computer.
Anyway, here, once again, are some pictures of my kids. At least they're cute, right? Not that I'm biased or anything.
In the last week, this little girl has gone from really not being at all interested in solid food to literally yelling at me if I eat in front of her without sharing.
(I found a pair of these BabyBjorn bibs at Goodwill a month or so before Molly arrived, and grabbed them impulsively based on the other BabyBjorn products I've tried, which are generally well designed. I must say, I am really a fan. They're stay on, the pocket at the bottom really does catch falling food, and then you toss the whole thing into the dishwasher when you're done and it comes out as good as new.)
Clomping around in Daddy's boots.
{pretty}
Wait! I have a non-kid photo. This is one of the bunnies that lives in the woods (which are not really woods but more like a field separated from us by a few trees) behind our house. They (the bunnies) are also pretty cute, and especially picturesque in the setting sunlight when we see them the most.
Ah, there they are.
Playing outside after Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday, we catch the elusive both-children-smiling photo. As I recall, I had to make some pretty outrageous noises to make this happen.
{happy}
This is one of Molly's tricks. She plays peek-a-boo! She's very proud of herself.
{funny}
This is how a big brother helps his little sister with her hat.
And this is the look she gives him in return.

Such cute pictures of Pippo and Molly!

Rosie, God bless your little ones! They are beautiful and such a welcome sight on a rainy morning.
I couldn’t help but notice your question on how do those mommy bloggers do it? I check in on a couple of those on a regular basis and have started to question whether or not I want to continue to follow them and here’s why: they take tons of photos of tantrums, mess-making and chaos in general with a “what can I do about this?” air of exasperation in the accompanying text. And I dearly want to say “Put down the camera/phone/tablet and take control back!”
Now I know that your children, as adorable and amicable as they appear in the photos above, have their moments too. But what can be seen around them is peace, order and cleanliness. I can’t help but think that this contributes to a general sense of peace and order in your home that helps your children learn how to live as cooperative family members. I realize some people might find my comments too critical and harsh but I know what my Mom would have to say on this – and Mom was always right!

I am Rosie’s mother in law, and I have to agree with you about the peace and order in her house. I feel it every time I visit, and I am so grateful that my grandchildren are growing up in such a place with such a mother.
And can I just say that I am absolutely delighted with all those rolls on Molly’s bare arms– so begging to be squeezed, that one! And Pippo in the Capt.’s boots!
Leane says
Lovely pictures of real life! I appreciate your comment, Janet. 🙂
Anne says
Adorable, Rosie! I can not believe how big Molly is. It would be a little sad if it weren’t for the amazing chubby, rosie, cuteness!
Becky says
I am perfectly happy to look at pictures of you children for quite a while! There is a season for adorable pictures and a season for cooking posts and they probably don’t happen at the same time. 🙂
Mrs. B. says
Look at those rolls of baby fat!! She’s so unbelievably cute! And that little man in those huge boots is so sweet and funny – really, Rosie, do you think that we come here on Thursday and roll our eyes because “it’s just kid pictures”???? You enjoy taking them and we love looking at them – it’s a win-win 🙂
Glad to hear you’re happy with how the house has turned out to be! I always enjoy the light I see in your photos indoors – a sunny house is such a happy place!

“clomping around in Daddy’s boots” brought back such good memories of my boys it choked me up! Brother helping sister with hat…well, that’s just hilarious!
Tamara says
Rosie, I love anything you post! And your pictures are always beautiful. I really wish we lived close by each other so we and our kids could be friends!
Mary says
Such sweet kids. Their ages reminded me to share with you and your readers the books by Shirley Hughes. They are so sweet and show such love between a brother and sister. Some are now out of print but I still get them on amazon. A few of my favorite titles are The Nursery collection, Dogger, and Bathwater’s Hot. You may have heard of these before, but I find that not many people have and I know you love books 🙂
Rachel Allison says
My ten children LOVE Shirley Hughes. Me, too!
Rosie, great pics. And I am anxiously awaiting when you can post some more pictures with YOU in them with your babies! 🙂
No rush on the mommy blogging. Methinks those blogs are highly, highly overrated. Who needs it when we have Auntie Leila, who has the benefit of been there/done that over am there/doing that? Plus, even SHE cautions against young mothers blogging. So there.
If only I had some opinions somewhere…
Susan says
Yes! I second the Shirley Hughes books! My little 3 year old boy is in love with her Alfie and Annie Rose books and I like how they show such a tender big brother- little sister relationship.
Also, beautiful pictures, Rosie! Keep them coming!

Those two are adorable! So precious. I love seeing the pictures and that look on Molly’s face in the last one is priceless.
Angela says
Oh sweet little fat baby arms. Love that so much! The pics of them smiling together are precious.
Charlotte says
Beautiful pictures! And I’ll take a Thursday post from you any day! That look that Molly gave Pippo is priceless! Such a classic big brother/little sister interaction.
margaret says
The arm rolls!! I die. They both look so much like your hubby. Dolls.
Kathy@9peas says
Such great photos of your babies! I love seeing the warm sunshine photos everyone has now (well everyone in the South – sorry Northerners, the sun is coming).
I always love it when my boys would try to wear Daddy’s boots, precious!
Rachel says
Your children aren’t cute. They’re beautiful!
And yes, Baby Bjorn bibs are the best. I used them thirty years ago when my first son was born and used them ever after for the next six sons. Lifesaver!
Cristina says
Beautiful children and great photos!. The first one about the hat made me literally laugh out loud! Thank you for sharing your thoughts about mommy bloggers. I was recently thinking about the same thing and wondering if it was just ME being incompetent or THEM being really talented, organized people blessed with days of more than 24 hours. 🙂 I guess people’s circumstances are different and some receive more help than others, have different priorities in life, etc. I know that after taking care of husband, kids, home, etc, the only thing I want to do is to sit down a few minutes to knit/crochet and then go to bed!

Oh my, how clever of Molly to play peek-a-boo! I remember when my daughter first figured out how to do that. Now, a few months later, she says “whirishi? whir did shi go?” (“where is she? where did she go?”) and she finally learned to say “boo!” AND jump out at you at the same time. Adorable. 🙂
Love Pippo helping to put her hat on. 🙂 It looks like he had her balanced only by her head!
Kristi says
I don’t even know you but love your posts and pics of your kids!
also concur on baby bjorn bibs — we too found them for our 2nd child and thought they were the best bibs by far! and at Goodwill — even better!
Kate says
The hat pictures are precious! Very cute 🙂
Melanie says
Such a bald little baby! I love it! All my babies have been *so* very bald. My baby will be two this month and she is just now starting to grow hair, lol. Molly and Pippo look so much alike, sweet.
Elena @ barefoot and sometimes pregnant says
Oh gosh, your kids are adorable!
Mab says
I just love Pippo’s boots and Molly’s hat 🙂
Rayna says
I love that picture of Pippo trying out the hat on Molly. Such a real sibling moment!
Speaking as one who once had a blog, I agree that it’s not always in the best interest of those involved. Time, for one. And then all the accompanying narcissism that comes with an online presence…if one can manage, I think that’s great! But for me, it is too slippery a slope from, “wow, look!” to “see how great I am!”. Plus selfies. A noun to define a generation if ever there was.
All that said, everyone here at LMLD does a wonderful job. Your blog is a service and a blessing!
Christy Hissong says
Oooooh — love that yellowish wall beside the front door! What kind of clean and happy paint is that?!
appleshoe says
Your wee ones are adorable. I love the picture of your boy stomping around in Papa’s boots, and please have your girl teach my Panda that food is not the enemy and neither are bibs 🙂 Be well.

Yeah, I rarely post anything, but I just wanted to second (or “eighth”?) what was said above about “mommy bloggers”. I return to this blog again and again mainly because of Auntie Leila’s seasoned advice that’s down-to-earth, practical, approachable, and real. I don’t sense a lot of putting on of airs and I appreciate that! It’s nice that 4 of you share the writing, as it can get old hearing from one voice/point-of-view, no matter who the writer/genre. Write as authentically as possible; that is what readers are drawn to over the long-haul (IMHO)! The photos are just OK–sometimes even unrelated to the post–and it makes me feel great! The blogs with a lot of staged, finessed photos make me wonder if the writer is really spending more time arranging props or parenting, and I wouldn’t have a ton of respect for the former. This culture is full of empty things that look “just perfect” on the outside…and are decrepit and decaying on the inside. Here’s to not getting a whole lot of “fringe” things done as a mother of little ones…due to focusing on what’s most eternal and most important! P.S. Leila’s advice on the 3 necessaries each day (dishes, laundry, food) has truly transformed my family’s homelife! (simple, practical, real…and revolutionary!)
von says
Ooops–I hope you didn’t read that as THESE photos (from this post) are just OK…I meant the photos Auntie Leila takes of her dog, the countertops, the woodstove, random flowers, piles of books, etc. The photos here of your little ones are obviously LOVELY! And yes, I also find that getting a single photo of both of my children together, happy and smiling and looking (eyes open) at the camera all at once is virtually impossible!
