Tomorrow I have a big announcement!
But today I want to quickly tell you about that [petit artichaut] (little artichoke to us) wrap of adorableness that really cost me in the sanity department.
It was hard.
But I conquered.
I even changed it as I went. I didn't actually fancy the sleeves being in garter stitch — as you know, that is not my favorite stitch, usually, and I didn't think it belonged there, randomly, in the sleeves. It does set them off *as* sleeves, but I just didn't like them.
Dear Breanna in the comments told me, basically, to just figure out how it should be and do that. Well, I couldn't, quite, because I'm not smart enough at knitting, but the advice did help me to make my way through the truly incomprehensible bits (and even now I'm not sure that it just actually — objectively — doesn't make sense at some points).
So I did it. I got it done in the time it would have taken me to knit a man's full body suit (link NSFAVAAT = Not Safe For Any Viewing At Any Time). So I didn't have time before Christmas to make Finnabee one (hence, the hat and some mittens not shown — will I now always be worried about balancing gifts amongst the grandchildren?).
They say that crosswords and figuring out hard stuff like this pattern, I imagine, which was basically like a Sunday New York Times crossword of Hades, are good for warding off dementia. Well, I think I'm covered.
I will update my Ravelry page soon!

Oh my goodness that is a pretty baby! What beautiful eyes! The wrap is pretty cute too. I wish I had someone that could knit us adorable things. 🙂

Balancing crafts among grandchildren – that made me smile. I’ve been sewing up a storm for our new guy, due soon, and the other kids are wanting me to sew for them too. It feels good, the making for a loved one! I ordered more fabric today – crazy – I’m worried I won’t finish my big plans!

Lisa, my mom found the pattern through one of the pins on my board, “Someone should knit me this.” 🙂 It’s worked pretty well so far!
Tamara says
Yea! You did it! It looks great and Miss Molly is adorable!
I can’t wait for tomorrow’s announcement. …

Having lots of grandbabies to try to balance handmade gifts between is a sweet problem to have 🙂
And my guess is that your big announcement tomorrow is that you are pregnant! 😉 Just kidding, but really that’s where my mind always goes when a fellow Catholic blogger mentions a big announcement, haha!
Btw, I’m not sure which is sweeter looking, the baby or the sweater! Molly is such a darling! And that sweater certainly does suit her!

Not just “pretty cute”, but utterly adorable!! And the wrap is darling too! 😉

Molly is darling, and that little wrap is adorable – love the color.
Warding off dementia – not sure if it wards it off, or makes dementia seem like sanity in comparison.

How do I NOT click on a link labeled NSFVAAT???? And the fact that you provided the link says a lot! I told my husband that I was going to start making his Christmas gift for next year. Then I showed him the pic. Tears are streaming down our faces!!! Funny as it is though, it might come in handy in these New Hampshire winters. Thanks for the laugh.

My daughter’s godmother made her that very same sweater! Sadly it’s already outgrown but it is very beautiful. Molly is such a sweetie, and I love her name too!

That mansuit is hilarious (and would explain a lot of sasquatch sightings). Beautiful baby. Looking forward to the big annoucement!

We want grandparent advice!! I know you are new at it but please pass on any thing you learn along the way. Baby and wrap are both adorable.
Leila says
Claire, I am the one who needs advice! I need to learn to craft quicker…

Sweet baby, pretty sweater! I love that color, it’s a perfect accent to those rosy cheeks.

It looks lovely. That Molly is a real peach! Oh my gosh those cheeks are the best!! Good Job Leila. I am still working on the knit AND purl. Maybe one day I’ll get it right.
