The Quack's schedule lately has become slightly… unbearable.
Us on our first anniversary. Still pretty happy about being married. |
To be honest, for the most part intern year has been better than I thought it would be (probably because my husband and I are both extreme “prepare-for-the-worst” types and had VERY low expectations, schedule-wise), and mostly I've figured, hey, a lot of husbands work very long hours! We are not alone! But this month, honestly, it's pretty medicine-specific. Sigh.
So, bright side: only a week and a half left of intern year!
Dark side: I don't know if we'll make it.
(I told that to my sister-in-law, and she asked if I meant we were fighting. No, we'll die married, but it seriously might kill us. I exaggerate. It's not that bad. But seriously.)
But! The Quack's brother got married last weekend in Colorado. Neither of us had been before; it's so beautiful!
We don't have skies like that here in the MidAtlantic! |
It was great to spend time with the Quack's family. Especially the younger ones! The Quack is at the younger end of his (very large!) family, so we already have quite a few nieces and nephews on that side. (Between the two of us, we now have (counting in-laws) 15 brothers and 12 sisters, plus 11 ex utero nieces and nephews.)
This particular little guy lives abroad:
Aunt Sukie's sunglasses are pretty fun. |
Don't know what you call this type of rock formation, other than beautiful. |
It was a long day for some of us! |
Of course, due to my excellent forethought and impeccable timing, my camera battery died as soon as the wedding began. I just have a couple of us all waiting outside the church:
Non-regulation hat for the amusement of the nephews. |
And one of the stunning church itself:
The wedding was so beautiful, and we all had a blast at the reception. I even met a blog reader!! We had just been talking with some friends about how, even though society at large is not on board with our way of life, you can find little pockets of like-minded communities spread all over the country. My parents live in one pocket; we live in one here in the DC area. It's so awesome to see another one way out West! And we're so happy that the Quack's brother found this one, and with it his beautiful bride.
And weddings just make me even more emotional now than they did before I got married. Since I failed completely to get a picture of last weekend's beautiful bride, and I can't leave you totally bereft, I'll end with a gratuitous photo from my own wedding (the grooms really look alike, anyway!):
