Easter morning skype with Daddy! We had skyped once last week, too, but before that it had been nearly 7 weeks, so it's still very much a treat to see his face (however blurry it may be).
We spent the rest of the day with some lovely friends, who included us in their big Easter celebration with family and friends. It involved two full feasts and (literally) more children than I could count. Pippo and I both had a blast.
I made it using this tutorial here at M & A Times, which was very good. I followed it exactly (as in, I did not stray from her instructions) because I started on this project after I put Pippo to bed after the Easter Vigil (yes, I felt a little bit like a crazy lady at this point) and didn't trust my tired self to think clearly on my own.
And you know what? That was a very good call on my part. Every change I was tempted to make would have been a bad idea. The pattern is good, and her instructions are clear. All you have to do is follow them blindly, and you will end up with a beautiful (lined!) toddler tie!
I snapped a few photos on our way out the door on Easter morning, but he had zero interest in standing still. He was much more interested in finding things and pointing them out to me than he was in looking at the camera.
In the long run, that's probably a good thing.
Speaking of the best I can do, this is my best attempt at a photo of both of us (plus bubble soap, naturally) — camera on auto, using the self timer. I think it would have taken a third person, or a more cooperative baby, to get the top of my head in.
How was your Easter? (or I should say, how was your Easter Sunday, because of course we have much rejoicing ahead of us still!)

Rosie, love your whole post. The baby outfit problem was the same here except I solved the hitched up pants with a borrowed sweater vest from my sister's little guy. We also self timed the Easter photos and cropped off tops of heads, lol. What I really wanted to tell you though is that my girl's have a little list of soldiers that their classes have been praying for so, you have two dozen kindergarteners and 2nd graders praying for you guys every morning. Happy Easter!

Love the tie, it really made his outfit special! Also enjoy those moments on scype, my husband and I had a 5 year long distance engagement before the internet. Now we make sure the kids see and talk to daddy anytime we are apart for more than a couple of days.

Happy Easter! I'm so happy for you that you were able to visit with your husband on Skype! My husband was just out of state for three weeks of training and I just can't imagine how I would survive much longer… Prayers for you all! And your little guy is just too cute!

I'm so glad you got to Skype for Easter. Hopefully your husband will be home safe and sound before too long – I can't seem to remember how long he's to be gone, but I don't think it's a whole year.
I LOVE Pippo's tie! I'm going to check that out for my guys, though I may have to scale it up a bit for 4 and 5 year olds. I tried a different tutorial a while back and the results were OK, but not great.

Wow, Philip did indeed do a nice job with the flowers! 😉
I love that second tie picture of Pippo – he looks like he's doing a little courtly dance! I love the idea that you stuck this tie on him and everyone's oohing and ahhing and he's completely oblivious. Hilarious! It is really cute, though.
I admire you so much for being so strong while your man is overseas! He has such a great wife to come home to! Hopefully the next few months go very quickly for you.

I approve of little boys with neckties! My 3-year-old just recently started dressing up EVERY outfit with a necktie. Melts my mommy-heart.

The tie is so cute. When I read this on Thursday my heart just hurt thinking of you and Pippo and your husband all missing each other. Hooray for Skype but I know it must be so hard. Thank you doesn't cut it, but thank you, thank you! And prayers for you too. Glad I got my post together to link up.

Great job on the tie! Your flowers are beautiful too. I'm so glad the Lt. bought them for you. 😉

I like your skirt, too, but when I saw the adorable photo of both of you my first thought was “Why can't I find a cute top like that?” Probably because I live in the backwoods and only shop online. Excellent thought and nice execution of the tie–he looks perfect. I don't have any sewing skills but now I think I must find a tie or two to buy for my 2 1/2 yo.

haha, I totally made my son's bow tie the night before Easter Sunday!! I planned to make him a necktie, but I thought it was too complicated for my tired brain. I did a bowtie a few days before and then finally got it right the night before (I blogged it here: http://thriftathome.blogspot.com/2012/04/easter-b… Learning to tie a bow tie is not hard! And the sewing is SO simple.
justamouse says
Happy Easter! That tie is so cute you must keep it forever. And keeping the Lt in our prayers.
