…is in your back yard — did you ever hear that saying?
{I think I scandalized my children with my mint julep post 🙂 Can't a girl have one drink a year? (Not counting the mojitos.)
Honestly, it was just the dumb day I was having up until taking that refreshing restorative that made me giddy. Had it not been Derby Day, I would have been more than content with a glass of iced tea!
Plus, I'm what they call a cheap date. Half a drink and the pictures are all of invisible mint.}
As I was saying.
Usually my dreams run the gamut from dumb to disturbing. I hardly ever have a really nice dream. In fact, I can only remember one. I dreamed a bluebird came and perched near me and sang a beautiful song.
It sounds corny, but I really dreamed that dream.
And I woke up so happy, and was so happy all day, with a happiness that I usually don't feel — I'm happy, but I often feel anxious, worried, or depressed –do you know the difference? — that my kids told me I should dream about a bluebird every night! Poor them!Well, I'm getting you prepared for an attempt on my part in the next little while to express some of what I've learned about raising kids and helping them to be disciplined; in short, disciplining your children.
And it all starts, you know, with finding some peace in the love you have for your family, your home, and all the little duties that having a family brings.
We have to love our homes, our chores, even all the vexing circumstances that pop up all the time — of course they do! We can't be bothered by that, you know!
There has to be a peace in our own heart that gives us the courage to do what is right for others, with the love we know they need from us. I will explain this to you if you don't already know about it.
But, for now, I must say that if we are needy– only needy (everyone is needy, but not only) –nothing will be right. We are going to have to learn to stand a bit apart from all our needs and see things from above.Last year we put up two bluebird houses. They were presents to me (the year before) from the Chief, who made them.
Even though I had requested them, I didn't believe that in this place of trees (many junky and holey enough), surrounded by brush barely kept back by our feeble idea of a lawn, bluebirds would identify these objects as suitable housing for their young. Why should they?
In this whole wide world full of holes just the right size — not to mention people far more clever than I, also putting up far better bluebird houses — why should they come here?
I had never seen a bluebird in my life, other than in a picture!
But in the fall, one came to the feeder. I was beside myself! And then, lo and behold! this spring, after much house hunting between the two properties, the daddy made his choice! And now — just look!
The bluebird of happiness is in the front yard!
It was all so simple! Put the house out and they will come! Just like that!

I currently have a mommy robin and her babies in a beautiful nest on my back porch and some kind of little finch nesting in a birdhouse gourd in my back yard. It is wonderful. Next year I am going to get a bluebird house. I know I have seen them in my backyard. Great post!

oh that nest is beautiful with it's eggs! They are a lovely color…in fact, doesn't that lovely color just match your china? It's too bad that the hatching process has to break the pretty shell.
