Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~

Sometimes contentment has to be found… wherever it can be found! I am on the run and don't have much to show you. The grass will have to be mown soon, and maybe the asparagus will start sprouting when it gets a wee bit warmer. I put straw on the strawberries that grow on the periphery of my asparagus beds, and I put beautifully aged manure (seriously the nicest manure I've ever had the pleasure to dig out of a neighbor's pile) on the asparagus, a chore that should have been done in the fall. So that's what you are seeing there.
I tried my best at pruning the pear trees, and by that I mean I was grateful that my sons-in-law did it for me when they were here. These are some of the branches that I didn't toss in the brush, thinking they might be good for something?
Is that just typical??
The bathrooms are still in process. I recommend moving or renovating bathrooms once every decade or two, whether you have somewhere to move or they need it or not, just so that you are forced to go through the accumulated piles of first-aid creams, gauze pads, tapes, and assorted remedies that have outlasted your crew's need for them. And if a prescription was filled at a drugstore that no longer exists in a town you no longer live in, well, now's the time to chuck it! Hashtag helpful advice.

As a military wife and someone that has moved on a regular basis since being married -I cannot imagine what could potentially accumulate in a bathroom that had been left for an extended period of time! Just yesterday I went through my “medicine bin” and ONCE AGAIN was disgusted with the amount of stuff we have accumulated in the last year and a half! The constant battle continues on…. 🙂

I feel you on the bathrooms and I’ve only got 5 years of marriage (and 3 years in our house) to go by! The random odds and ends of things just seem to accumulate there with no natural process of attrition.
It’s kind of strange to me, on the other side of the country, to realize that it is still too cold up there for your plants to sprout, while down here I’ve already planted my summer crops! Gardens in transition/preparation have kind of a lonely look, before everything starts to turn green and full of new visible life.

I try to go through the medicine cabinet twice a year (at time changes, or something hugely obvious like that) so that it’s not a huge pain to take all the expired stuff to be disposed of properly. The national drug take back event is once a year, so if you remember to put that on your calendar, you’ll at least be doing it then – http://www.deadiversion.usdoj.gov/drug_disposal/takeback/

The pear branches would make good swales (vertical posts) for weaving wattle fences. Making wattle sides for some new raised beds is a first time project of mine this year. It’s amazing what clearing some woody, invasive brush and pinterest can inspire!

Is it weird that you stole my laundry basket? Complete with the broken off handle-thingy?

Yes to the bathroom, we do our best to at least clean out all drawers and cabinets once a year. We hope to update them within the next 5 years. The house was built in 1953 and has only seen a wallpaper update in the late 80’s. So, it is time.

I attempted to purchase “The Holy Gospels” book for my son as a confirmation gift. It does not appear to be available any more except for one copy from a third-party seller on amazon. Do you know if it is available elsewhere?
Leila says
Laurie, I know it looks a bit confusing, but that is the book for sale by the publisher, Will Bloomfield. Make your purchase and enter the code for the 20% discount.
Enjoy!

I love your rug in the last photo. Where did you find it? Thanks!

Anyone have tips for safely opening an Etsy shop? Any do/don’t do experience?

Thanks for the chuckle. When my grandmother passed and we cleaned out her bathroom, we found things from a drug store that had been closed for about 25 years. It actually made me smile, remembering growing up with the kids/grandkids of the owners.
