We have Easter at Ephesus, the newly released offering by the Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles, as promised! Two lucky readers will win either a CD or a download (your choice!). The details of this giveaway are at the end of the post.
I'm afraid that I'm not going to be very chatty this time around – suddenly I feel the pressure of various deadlines arising soon (with, notably, one major deadline looming in the surprisingly-close future) and need to be quick at the computer this weekend!
This week's links!
In the world of Sports news:
- Those of us from MA are already familiar with this man's story and what he means to folks around here, but if you don't know Bobby Orr, this article is a great introduction. And those who do know him and his legacy will be edified to learn more about his private life of service. Truly a legend: At 65, Bobby Orr is focused on doing good – quietly.
- A bizarre and amusing tale of an elaborate hoax (the spirit is of a prank, but the scope goes beyond mere prank-ness) that's only now being revealed: The 40-Year Secret Behind Basketball's ‘Hershberger' Award.
And all the rest:
- A little encouragement for parents of kids who might tend towards vocations in the arts. (I almost feel obligated to share this one, given the path that my husband and I have chosen: to live by the paintbrush!)
- 15 Things you Might Not Know about ‘The Princess Bride' — because we are always up for some PB lore around here at LMLD. (By the way, I feel that 9 & 10 help to justify the immense crush I had on Elwes/Wesley as a girl.)
- An intriguing possibility: recent studies indicate that it's possible that dishwashers are leaving our dishes too clean, and it can be advantageous for kids' health to be in hand-dishwashing households. Kids, Allergies, and a Possible Downside to Squeaky-Clean Dishes. Even if this doesn't turn out to be true, you can find me enjoying this theory immensely as I stand at my double sink with my rubber gloves and dishwasher-free (not by choice) apartment!
- Many of you probably heard of the passing of Dr. Charlie Rice of Notre Dame, who died just last month. It would be worth your time to read this lovely tribute by his daughter Mary Rice Hasson: A Great Man in Public and Private (I guess he had that in common with Bobby Orr!).
As Auntie Leila mentioned, I'm working on a new series about wedding planning, and I'm quite excited! Hopefully I'll be getting that out before long!
And now for the giveaway!
Easter at Ephesus is a wonderful collection of Easter hymns, chants, and motets. Of course you know that Easter is a season lasting 50 days, from Easter Sunday to Pentecost. The Benedictines of Mary, Queen of the Apostles, have done it again — a unique offering that will take you right through this holy season. I know you will love it. It's just as peaceful and angelic as Lent at Ephesus, but of course just right for this glorious season of Easter! Don't start listening until that day… but enter now for your chance to receive one of two copies. (By the way, the CD/download comes with liner notes that include the words to all the pieces, the better to learn them at home.)
Leave a comment here to enter — and if you share on Facebook or Pinterest, leave another! Thanks! We will close the comments on Wednesday night as usual.

I’d love to win the CD! On another note…I’m intrigued by the dishwasher article, except that we live in a mini-farm, eat fermented food and farm milk, but I have always had a dishwasher. 2 of my 4 kids have allergies but get plenty of farm dirt and animals on them. I wish there was a simple answer.
