~ Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~
Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
{pretty}
So, it wasn't Snowpocalypse, but it was over 30 inches of snow and high winds. A respectably intense storm! Up against the house you don't quite believe it, but that's because the wind whipped right across.
{happy}
I'll tell you who is happy to frolic out there! My neighbor was calling her dog, and I was pointing out that it's better than frolicking inside the house!
{funny}
If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I was hunkered down with this puzzle, starting with the weekend's storm. What a blast from the 90s, huh? Mary Englebreit!
Normally I wouldn't pull out a jigsaw puzzle, but Bridget and her friends had been doing one, and I had the itch. Habou was happy to enable. Between us, it took days of obsession to finish it — 1000 pieces, don't know what I was thinking.
Finally, as the blizzard subsided, I finished it up, irritated as heck at it and also really enjoying that last hour, where the pieces just pop in. Thank goodness it was done.
What a waste of time!
But…
I have this other one…
{real}
Real is two people spending an hour digging out their plow truck. (And now you know where the drifts were.)

I love Mary Englebreit! I enjoy seeing her regular Facebook posts. She is mind bogglingly prolific! I never did have the patience for jigsaw puzzles though and it’s a shame because someone recently sent me a cute one covered with vintage shoes (it’s in the “pass-it-on-pile” in the woodshed awaiting someone who will appreciate it). But I do love a good snow storm for just the reason that it forces us to stay in and be cozy, taking time for things like crafts and games that I usually don’t slow down for.
I love living seasonally, it seems like life would be so bland if the weather was always the same; it needs that “seasoning”!!

It’s beautiful to look at … from Florida. ::shiver:: I moved from the northeast not quite 13 years ago and I do *not* miss the shoveling and cleaning off my car and snow-covered black ice and slush puddles lurking below the snow, just waiting to pour into your unsuspecting shoe! Ha! So pretty in photos though. =)

I used to love working puzzles with my aunt when I visited my grandparents! We attempted a giant puzzle last year but with all the littles it was promptly scattered the far reaches of the house and we abandoned the attempt. Maybe we’ll try again in a few years 🙂

As a Buffalo gal I’ll refrain from commenting on the ‘blizzard’ 😉 I love jigsaw puzzles and get obsessive when one is started. In fact, my plan for this upcoming birth is to get a really great puzzle started because I will be so focused on that, it may help with labor. Not really kidding!!

I love your dogs in the snow! And your house! It all looks very Wonderlandish!! Happy puzzling!

Darling, I’d give an eye-tooth, maybe two!, to be able to legitimately be hunkered down and work on a 1,000 piece puzzle right now. SO not afforded that “luxury” living in fair weather, too bright all.year.long, southern California. :/ Blessings.

I am impressed that you would do that puzzle…
I am *not* a jigsaw puzzle person, at all. Don’t enjoy them–because they seems fiddly and a huge time sink–I’d rather read a book!
Glad you survived the storm….
God bless you all!

Your house is so pretty! I love it!
My husband’s family is VERY into puzzles and do them all the time. I meanwhile must have puzzle ADD because I get so frustrated and impatient any time I attempt to join in the “fun.”
Maurisa says
Wow, we have been snow starved here in Utah. Could you send some our way?

I’ve always liked that Chair of Bowlies print. We once did a 5000 piece puzzle together while on vacation at the beach…a bunch of shells. My mom got a special mat and glue to preserve it forever, and then she slid it under her sofa, where it remained…forever. It might still be there, now that I think of it.

Puzzles can be so addicting!
Being a Southern California native I’m not sure I could ever move to a colder climate with actual seasons… I remember as a young girl my sisters and I would love to go “visit” the snow up in the local mountains after a rainstorm, and after a few hours we were ready to go home! (=

Puzzles sound so perfect right now! And I loved looking at the snow pictures. Our snow has starting looking a little grimy the last few days, even with a fresh dusting this afternoon… I always think it looks so pretty when there’s a lot of freshly fallen snow!

That tone/shade of yellow is my absolute favorite for a house – it looks just lovely, including up against that crisp white snow. And I would (humbly and respectfully) suggest that, as puzzles are a good means of exercising one’s visual/spatial reasoning and associated cognitive abilities, you and Habou have had a most productive blizzard indeed! 🙂
Stephanie says
Oh dear… I’m thinking (probably/hopefully overthinking) that I’d best clarify – I don’t mean that you have any particular need to exercise those abilities any more than any one of us does! Only that I hope you enjoy them fully, rather than feeling like you wasted your time, as they can be both fun and useful! 🙂
Stephanie says
Enjoy the puzzles, that is… this is why I should not write this long after bedtime! 😉
Leila says
Stephanie, you are hilarious.
Way to rationalize my time-wasting AND tie yourself in a knot! However, sentiment understood and appreciated 😉 In fact, I kept telling myself the same thing… it was a love-hate time for me 🙂
Jennifer says
Snow it did, but epic it was not. Glad you were able to keep yourself amused.
Kathy@9peas says
I won’t complain about our beautiful weather, but we really would love some snow. Thank you for sharing all your snow photos.

I looove your big old yellow house! I have to confess though, that that picture of it up there just has me wanting to see more. Can you do a post someday about the outside of your house? And maybe a history of its additions? Old houses fascinate me so!
Lindsey says
Glad to hear you weathered the storm! It’s hard to tell how much we snow we got in our nook of PEI, as the wind just kept driving it on past us for the most part. I’d say it drifted most around the car! We had our storm chips, so all was well. 🙂 I don’t think I’ve pulled out a real puzzle since the kids were born… I might be able to get away with it this winter, as no one will put the pieces in their mouth and we now have a huge dining room with enough room for dining and puzzle piecing at the same time!
Woman of the House says
We have had hardly any snow this winter (so far!), so I will enjoy yours vicariously. I agree about the color of your house~ love it! When I was a girl, we did many a jigsaw puzzle in the winter months, but I have not carried it into adulthood. Sometimes I miss it. . .
