~ Capturing the context of contentment in everyday life ~
Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
{pretty}
When Sukie and the Quack asked us to be Freddie's godparents, we were honored, delighted, and determined to be there for the baptism if we could possibly swing it. We were really hoping to be able to make a family trip out of it , but in the end Molly and I went to DC as representatives.
Lucky us! I was so happy to be able to make this trip, and only wish that we lived closer and could have been more helpful! But we did get to spend time with this little darling, and see what good parents he has. Sukie and John are such calm and competent new parents. (Also beautiful. Remember, that baby was over nine pounds! She looked great.)
Freddie is so strong! And when he's not sleeping in the most delightfully squishy way possible, he's just looking around with those great big dark eyes, taking everything in.
What, you say you would like to see a few more pictures of my handsome nephew? It's possible I can make that happen.

Welcome to the Church, sweet godson!
He smells so delicious right now.
Freddie wore pieces from both the Quack and Lawler family gowns — the Lawler underdress and cap (which had been taken off at this point, to make way for the holy water!), and the Quack gown (pictured).
He wore it all with dignity and adorableness.
This is only a fraction of Freddie's entire extended family. What a lucky boy!

Molly was not interested in being held by anyone but me during the baptism (or, for that matter, throughout our trip), but the area around the baptismal font was fairly well contained, so rather than struggle with her in my arms, I just let her loose so I could concentrate on my godmotherly duties.
She proceeded to toddle in circles around me (holding one of my hands), splay out flat on the floor, looking at her reflection in the shiny marble, kick her feet up and down to hear the clack of her buckle against the stone, and generally be as squirrely as toddlery possible, right there in front of the main action.
Oh, and during the photos afterwards, she tried her best to smack her cousin in the head.
Sorry, Sukie.
To avoid overloading the new parents, I invited myself and my baby to stay nearby with my best friend (and college roommate) who, at 38 weeks pregnant with her second child, proved herself a true friend by immediately saying yes.
My friend pulled out their high chair for Molly, but when her daughter saw it, she was overcome by a two-year-old's nostalgia and reclaimed it, graciously offering her bumbo-on-a-chair for Molly.
Molly was 100% content with this arrangement, and happily ate all her meals there with this view of the table:

We ended up sitting in the plane in DC for three hours before returning to the gate, refueling, and finally taking off — literally at the time we were supposed to be landing in Dallas.
I was so thankful that what appeared to be the only empty seat on the plane was next to mine! Also for a friendly seatmate with a cell phone charger, peek-a-boo-playing teens in front of us, and a baby who handled the doubled travel time like a champ. In fact, several of her fellow passengers referred to her as “perfect.”
It was a little exhausting. (One woman we talked to along the way said that her daughter had recently described traveling with a young toddler as “alligator wrestling.” I think that's not a bad description.)
But we made it.
Of course we completely missed our connection to the tiny little airport in our town, but rather than wait until the next morning to catch the next one, we got rebooked to another airport an hour away. This airport was even tinier and less official looking than ours! I didn't think that was possible.

OKay- that has got to be the sweetest little boy I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing such deliciousness with me this morning. Perfect way to start the day!
So glad you got to be there for Sukie & co. ~ so special. And I *loved* that picture of your girlie contentedly staring at the table edge. Precious girl.

Oh dear. Here I thought Molly was pointing to Freddie in that group picture, saying “See! There he is, he is the boy of the hour!”, not trying her very best to reach across half a dozen adults to smack him!
Such a wonderful thing to see family so close. Prayers that the cousins may grow up to be great friends, in spite of physical distance among them.

What a sweet little boy! And how special it is to have such a beautiful family to be surrounded with. Traveling with littles is never dull, I don’t think I have read a book on a plane in 20 years…also I have been in that WIchita Falls airport many times!

Thank you for sharing these wonderful baptism memories! Freddie is SO blessed. What an awesome family! I think your sweet Molly crawling around the font is such a beautiful example of our Church’s culture of life and living generationally….ALL are welcome in this place. The three hour plane sit made me cringe…ugh…talk about patience boot camp, GOOD JOB. God bless!

Freddie!!! He is so cute, looks so sweet and pensive in the one photo (he’s thinking deep thoughts, you can see it!). You’re right – Sukie looks absolutely amazing. She’s glowing! I LOL’d at the picture of Molly eye-to-eye with the table’s edge. Poor Molly!
