Every Thursday, here at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
{pretty}
I find it so very satisfying when my bread comes out pretty as well as tasty. There's something so appealing about a loaf of braided bread, and this time I happened to have some egg white left over from making dessert, so I used that to brush the top before I popped it in the oven. I should remember to do that more often.
{happy}
That, believe it or not, is Pippo's Big Boy Bed waiting there on the doorstep. (Amazon Prime, you are a wonderful and dangerous thing.) He was happy and comfortable in his crib for much longer than I expected a strong little monkey child to be, but as soon as his new bed showed up, he ran into his room and started tugging at the side of the crib, asking for help in taking it apart. I convinced him to leave it up for his sister, but any worries I had about him adjusting to the change were soon gone. Excited would be an understatement.
He especially loves how the comforter really “comfs the bed up.”
Meanwhile, cutie pie.
{funny}
Jumping babies crack me up. And lucky Molly has what Pippo didn't: a big sibling to help her jump even higher – and give her pushes so she can swing, too!
What, Mom? We're being good!
{real}
It's been awfully cold here, as I'm sure it is there as well. I'm very pointedly not complaining, in part because it hasn't been that bad (I am from New England, after all…), but mainly because I'm saving all my complaining for the heat and the bugs this summer. Priorities.
We've been handling the cold mostly by staying home and working on puzzles, playing lots and lots of Go Fish, potty training (which is why my real {real} involves rather less in the way of pants than I can show you here), trying to remind a certain little girl how to nap (and introduce her to the crazy notion of going to sleep at night), and generally laying low. So it's actually been a fruitful time for us.
Sometimes having to stay home is a blessing.
In other news, I found this flyer from a local florist in my mailbox last week. Roses with writing on them? Is this a thing? Much as I love (love) flowers, the shocking markup (and simultaneous quality dip) on Valentine's Day already stresses me out. I think that my husband spending all that money on that second option is something of a Valentine's Day nightmare for me. (Not likely to come true.)

Which big-boy bed did you order? We’ll be needing a big-girl bed soon, and Amazon Prime is also a beloved friend (and sometimes hated foe) in our house.
Rosie says
We got this one, though it’s significantly more expensive now than when we ordered it a couple of weeks ago. I guess we lucked out? We were deciding between that one and this one at the time, and decided to spring for the slightly thicker one since it was only a little more. (They both have great reviews and I’m very happy with ours so far, but I wouldn’t have paid twice as much for it!)
We also got a simple metal frame to go with it; I’d like to find a cute wooden bed for him, but haven’t had any luck so far. I’d just put the mattress on the floor until then, except I’m (possibly irrationally) afraid of spiders and scorpions setting up shop under my baby’s bed. I need it up on legs so I can see what’s going on under there!

We just got this one for Ann. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005A4OP3Y/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Basically the same thing? But the 6inch not the 8 and we are perfectly happy with it. She loves it and I think it feels pretty comfy too.

That last picture of Pippo and his sister has me cracking up in my office (and getting strange looks from passing coworkers). Needless to say, it looks as if Pippo enjoys being a big brother and Mary enjoys having one!
Love the “comfs the bed up” comment. Truly, isn’t that all we really want from a bed?

So much sweetness – my teeth are hurting1!

My husband lucked out in the Valentine department. Our anniversary is the 16th, so we end up not really messing with Valentine’s Day as a romantic holiday. I do look forward to making Valentines with the kids next year though.
Speaking of the kids, I have to thank you all on behalf of my two-year-old for keeping the chickens. Somehow she always happens to walk by when I have your blog up, and she gets SO excited, and says, “Nook, Mom! CHICKENS! Oh, they so cute!” You make her day fairly often. 🙂
And hooray for the big boy bed! We had to transition our little climber pretty early (did a crib mattress on the floor for quite a while) and my favorite part about the big girl bed is sitting on her bed with her for bedtime stories. 🙂

Lovely post, Lovely pictures of Beautiful Babies!!

The last picture of your kids is just priceless. Their faces…
Anne says
That is the same mattress we got Ann. Pretty hard to get out of the packaging, right? Sheesh! But still the idea that you can get a mattress into a little roll like that makes me strangely happy.

That bread looks delicious and your babes are beautiful! Happy potty training!

It is lovely to see the cute photos of Pippo and Molly. I always enjoy reading your blog.
We have almost two feet of snow here in Virginia now and still snowing!
Sally O'Neil says
Rosie’s eyes are just the color of her great-great Aunt Hetty Reid’s eyes ( my mother).
Sally O'Neil says
Oops, I meant to say Molly’s eyes are like my mother’s, not Rosie’s.

I love the pictures of siblings playing together. You can tell they have already started scheming together. That green knit hat is pretty nifty.
I hate to be *that* person, but babies are not supposed to have their coats on when in their carseat. The bulk of the clothing makes the seat belts not work right. Baby could be knocked out of her coat and slip right out of the carseat in the event of an accident. Just an FYI.
Rosie says
Hi Jenny – She’s not actually wearing a coat – it’s a (warm but very non-bulky) vest, since it was approximately negative one million degrees out, and I just couldn’t bring her out without a little extra something under the blankets! I do know about bulky coats getting in the way of carseats, and am careful about it. She’s strapped in tight, don’t worry!
Jenny says
*Sighs relief* I think every mother has one area of irrational fear when it comes to children. Mine is carseats. 🙂

My birthday happens to be in February, and I long ago told my husband that if there WAS money to get me roses, to do it then. We save money, and I feel even more loved! (I’m the more-frugal one. ;-D )
Mary says
I think my husband is now finally convinced that I really really mean it when I say it would make me sick if he were to spend that much money on flowers!! I’ll take hand picked wildflowers or an unexpected random bunch of tulips from the grocery store any day!
The kids are adorable and thank you for being discrete in your potty training pics (or lack thereof!) It always makes me very nervous when people don’t filter that stuff on the internet.
Terri says
Ahh–great pics. Thanks for sharing. I like the idea of “saving” complaining for later.
Mary says
Pippo is growing up so fast! Where did the time go?? He looks like he is quite the big brother, so helpful with his little sisters jumping skills. LOL! What size is Molly wearing now?? She is so very, very sweet! Yay for smiling babies!! Stay warm!
Stephanie says
Does Molly have a favorite song she likes to “jump” too? My littles always bounced more for different tunes 🙂 God bless your sweet family!
Mary says
Oh my! I am trying to reignite a love for the lit of the hours in my house. I used to be so faithful. This would help so much!
Joy in Alabama says
Oh, Rosie, you have the prettiest children! Thank you for posting! And the bread looks YUM!
Melissa says
My 6yo was looking at all your pictures with me. When he saw the last picture of Pippo, he asked me if that was Winnie the Pooh’s friend. He does so look like Christopher Robin in that picture!
Sarah says
Rosie, you certainly make beautiful bread. Wow. Mine always looks liked it was just flopped out of the breadmaker onto the baking tray – which in actuality reflects how it was made, truth be told:)
The kiddos are growing up. But, isn’t it lovely to see them start to play together.
Bridget says
Hahaha what even are “foliages?”
Colleen says
We had the same mattress show up at our door this week! We are using it for a guest bed. The price was beyond reasonable and the reviews so good that we thought we’d give it a shot. The first guest will sleep on it tomorrow night; let’s hope he thinks it was a wise choice 🙂

The new font is stressing me out, but I admire it and am going to commit to loving it. Thank you for listening.

I agree~ Pippo does look like Christopher Robin in the last picture! That is exactly what I thought too! Both of your children are so adorable. You must feel very blessed! 🙂
