The weekly “little of this, little of that” feature at Like Mother, Like Daughter!
|
It's been a busy week around here! These days there are many moms-to-be to be showered, babies to be met, and baptisms to attend. So exciting! I'll be up to such doings today.
I've had the joy of holding more infants in the past two months than I think I'd held in years!
If you, like me, enjoy flipping through pictures of beautiful gowns, I suggest that you check out the designs of Hamda Al Fahim. Just for fun! I just came upon this site and, for the first time in a while, actually sighed over some lovely, truly feminine dresses that I can imagine myself wearing (you know – in a dream world/the fairy tale, and not-six-months-pregnant! version of my life).
This week's links!
- Oh my word if I had the chance to take part in this summer art workshop at Thomas More College, I would be all over it! Any art students/lovers out there should definitely consider applying! The Artist and I would both be envious of anyone who got to attend and study with Paul Ingbretson. This is art from a classical tradition; something you don't find that easily today in our culture.
- Anyone enjoy decorating? History? Paris? Antique treasures? All of the above? Take a look at this Paris Time Capsule Apartment at Messy Nessy Chic. How fun! And talk about the collective memory….
- For a morning mental exercise on a more serious topic, you (and perhaps your middle school or high school-level children/students) would benefit from reading through this study of logic in an abortion argument: thinking through the Fallacy of Frozen Embryos in a Burning Building.
- Calling quilters! I am not (yet) one of you, but perhaps you will be interested to read about this freehand approach to quilting from Threads Magazine. Quilting without the OCD.
- Why the Fuss About Reading Mommy Blogs? I bet that LMLD readers can relate to this post!
- It's plug time! The book on His Holiness from The Chief is here! And a great price on Amazon: A Call to Serve: Pope Francis and the Catholic Future. Of course we are of the opinion that this is the definitive book of its category — lots of wonderful full-color photos, and great text, of course! And my mom says that the copy she got yesterday is just beautiful.
On a related note: This offer from Catholic Culture : Get an autographed copy!
Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

Ah! I was going to buy the other new book about the pope – now I'll get both! And the Threads article – thanks a lot; I've bookmarked it. 🙂

Ann and I are agreed that that lady must be a princess.
That quilting link is awesome. Maybe I'll give some of this a try if I ever get to quilting your wedding quilt! No, I WILL get to it…it just might take a while. 🙂 I am actually doing Sukie's all freehand. It can be a little stressful, but I think it's getting easier. Also, I love the idea of sticking in a pin to mark the line's destination. That will help!

You know, now and then I forget entirely that that quilt exists, so every time I'm reminded of it it's like receiving the gift and surprise all over again (in advance)! I will be so delighted with it whenever it happens to reach its conclusion…! 🙂

And yes she's like a princess – or queen – of fairies. So enchantingly beautiful!

Aww, thanks for telling me!

Many thanks to the link re: the burning building fallacy. Loved this: “Indeed, we could make an endless list of such harrowing choices, none of which would legitimize murdering any of their participants.”

My goodness, that is one gorgeous gown… I probably stared at it for about 10 minutes…

I remember those years – when I used to attend weddings, showers and baptisms. Now that I'm in middle age it seems like all I've been going to lately are funerals. We had an unusual number of friend's parents die at the beginning of this year. I did get to finally go to a friend's daughter's baby shower yesterday! It's been so long that I was a major failure at the party games. I'll have to brush up because it seems like I'm entering another phase where my own children, nieces and nephews and friends' children are hitting marrying age.
I would so love to send my artistic daughter to the TM art program. If only we didn't live 3,000 miles away.

The gown reminds me of Kay Nielsen’s princess illustrations; so delicate and beautiful! Are you familiar with his work?
